FRRR ABC Takeover Youth Grants

Group of youth on a stage in front of a sign that says 'ABC Takeover Mildura'

Each year, FRRR and our donor partners collaborate with ABC to support a group of young people to play an active role in shaping their community’s future.

In 2023, Takeover went to Mildura, Victoria and the program was expanded to enable not-for-profits to take action on the ideas generated by local youth at the Takeover Mildura Summit.

During the weeklong Takeover Summit in May, 36 young people from Mildura and surrounds participated in a leadership summit. With the support of mentors and engagement with local stakeholders, they had the opportunity to explore issues that matter to them and develop ideas to make Mildura a better place to grow up.

FRRR led Takeover participants through an exciting new youth-led granting process. Young people met with youth-focused community organisations to discuss and co-design their ideas for change, and invited aligned organisation to apply for grants up to $4,000 to implement their ideas. Embedded in this funding is an opportunity for young people to support the project implementation in paid youth advisor roles.

Through this program we hope to achieve increased voice and wellbeing for young Australians, with increased connections between youth and local organisations.

The 2023 program has closed, and applications are now being assessed.
