Rebuilding Futures

Unkya Reserve affected by flooding in Feb 2022
Round 1 recipient: Unkya Reserve Committee of Management, Nambucca Valley Council, NSW

Rebuilding Futures is a responsive grant program, which will be activated from time to time to provide disaster recovery support for remote, rural and regional communities impacted by extreme weather events.

The program aims to support grants for local not-for-profit community organisations to undertake community-identified and community-led recovery activities that can strengthen resilience and enable projects for building back better to reduce the impact of future disasters on community wellbeing and physical infrastructure.

So far, more than $1 million has been awarded via three grant rounds to 62 community groups for a wide range of projects and activities to support recovery in the medium to long-term.

When we got the FRRR grant, it took so much pressure off us as a charity – we hadn’t been able to run a fundraising event in nine months, and we couldn’t see a way out of COVID-19. The grant allowed us to continue our plan for our projects and support our flood and fire affected community.”

Making a difference in Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie, on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, is just one of many towns feeling the effects of cumulative disasters. Local community organisations like Make a Difference – Port Macquarie play a crucial role in the community’s recovery, thanks to disaster recovery funding from programs like the Suncorp Rebuilding Futures.

“The Common Approach”

Mission Australia has worked in partnership with Mid Coast 4 Kids to deliver ‘The Common Approach’ training to build capability for a whole of community response to child youth wellbeing in the Mid Coast region, thanks to a grant they received through the Rebuilding Futures program.
