Youth for Youth

Community stories: 24 April 2019

A youth-led project, coordinated by Regional Youth Support Services on the Central Coast of NSW, has created a series of initiatives aimed at giving LGBTQIA+ youth a platform to express themselves and to help normalise sexuality and gender diversity into the broader community. The $9,000 Heywire grant was used to produce a series of podcasts, and a YouTube documentary focused on LGBTQIA+ youth-related topics.

Growing together in the community garden

Community stories: 23 April 2019

The Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre used a $5,599 ANZ Seeds of Renewal grant to design, construct and plant a community vegetable garden, supporting skill sharing and healthier eating behaviours. The gardening project engaged a cross section of the isolated Tasmanian community, resulting in skills sharing, confidence building and new friendships and social circles, not to mention some tasty produce shared among the committed gardeners.

GR&Wing Whittlesea Men’s Shed

Community stories: 20 March 2019

The Whittlesea Men's Shed is an integral part of the local community, providing a supportive environment for men to come together, share and learn skills and contribute to their local community. Such is the reputation the group is regularly called upon to build quality items such as outdoor furniture, toys and restorations for community groups. They received $19,000 from the Grants for Resilience & Wellness (GR&W) program to build a dedicated facility to store timber that is either bought or donated to the Men's Shed.

Local football hero remembered with a community bus

Community stories: 20 March 2019

Following the death of a beloved local who was tragically killed in a road accident in 2013, the Stand Like Stone Community Foundation approved the creation of the Steven Noble Memorial Sub-Fund. The Stand Like Stone Community Foundation channelled funds raised via its FRRR Community Foundation Fundraising Account through the sub-fund to enable the purchase of a bus to service the extended communities of Port MacDonnell, Allendale and Kongorong, for the charitable purposes of education, awareness and accessibility for rural and regional communities.

Mackay get the power to support

During Cyclone Debbie in 2017 the Pioneer River in Mackay, Queensland, broke its banks, flooding surrounding homes and businesses. The local Western Suburbs Clubhouse, spared from flooding, was used as a recovery centre after Cyclone Debbie at the request of local Police. The Western Suburbs Rugby League Football Club received a Repair-Restore-Renew grant to install a power generator at the Clubrooms.
