In repurposing these community-owned assets, the nearby towns are benefiting from increased visitor numbers, and the economic boost tourism can bring.

Storage shed sparks joy in Boho South

Community stories: 28 May 2019

A new storage shed at the Boho South Hall in north-eastern Victoria was funded with a $3,157 grant from the Small Grants for Rural Communities program, funded by the R.E. Ross Trust. The shed has enabled a decluttering of the Hall, with items such as furniture and tennis nets now finding a new home in the shed, along with the ride on mower, which had previously been housed at community members’ homes.

Youth for Youth

Community stories: 24 April 2019

A youth-led project, coordinated by Regional Youth Support Services on the Central Coast of NSW, has created a series of initiatives aimed at giving LGBTQIA+ youth a platform to express themselves and to help normalise sexuality and gender diversity into the broader community. The $9,000 Heywire grant was used to produce a series of podcasts, and a YouTube documentary focused on LGBTQIA+ youth-related topics.

Growing together in the community garden

The Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre used a $5,599 ANZ Seeds of Renewal grant to design, construct and plant a community vegetable garden, supporting skill sharing and healthier eating behaviours. The gardening project engaged a cross section of the isolated Tasmanian community, resulting in skills sharing, confidence building and new friendships and social circles, not to mention some tasty produce shared among the committed gardeners.
